We're looking for great people to join our team, and if that's you, we'd love to hear from you.  Positions we're currently recruiting for are listed below. If current roles aren't suitable, but if you'd like to be updated about future job opportunities, get in touch (info below), and we'll let you know if something suitable comes up.

WE'RE HIRING

1. Cabinet Maker / Box Maker

Having hired a new member of the team in August, we’re expanding again, and looking for a really good cabinet maker to join us at H. Miller Bros. It’s a exciting time in our business - we’re expanding our small kitchen and furniture making workshop into a growing team of craftspeople who can deliver the design-lead projects we’ve become known for. We want to find a person who’s as passionate about making beautiful projects in wood as we are.

The Role:

- You will be responsible for taking projects from start to finish in the workshop. This will include interpreting project drawings; selecting and planning the use of materials; rough dimensioning and planing; accurate sizing and cutting, jointing , moulding, and shaping; sanding and prepping; finishing with oil, lacquer, paint etc, fitting projects on site.
- Experience in using wood hand tools, power tools and stationary woodworking machinery is very important – this experience may have been self-guided or in a formal setting such as an apprenticeship or collage. Many projects require an ability to develop and make jigs in order to increase productivity when producing batches of items. Problem solving and thinking laterally to overcome issues is a vital part of the role, due to the large amount of bespoke work we make.
- Most of our work is made from solid hardwood and veneered panel products. A good knowledge of solid wood joinery is very important, as this is what our workshop was founded on. Experience in working with panels – score cutting, carcassing, pocket-holing, and domino-ing – would be useful.
- A lot of our work involves ironmongery and small bits of metal work. Experience of cutting in and installing ironmongery would be great.
- Many of our projects are installed in clients homes, and experience in fitting cabinetry and working on site away from the workshop would be preferable.

Pay and Terms:

Reference ID: Cabinet and Box Maker

Full-time, 12-month contract initially, with a desire for the role to become permanent

Salary: £20,000 - £26,000 per year

If you think you’re the person we’re looking for, we’d love to hear from you. Please send CV’s and cover letters to hello@hmillerbros.co.uk. If you have any questions ahead of applying, call us at the workshop on 0151 709 0970.

WE'RE HIRING

2. Senior Cabinet Maker / Workshop Manager

We’re looking for a really good maker, organiser and manager to become the new Workshop Manager at H Miller Bros. It’s a exciting time in our business - we’re expanding our small kitchen and furniture making workshop into a growing team of craftspeople who can deliver the exciting design-lead projects we’ve become known for. We want to find a person who’s as passionate about making beautiful projects in wood as we are, and who will become the centre of the workshop around whom our team will grow.

About H Miller Bros:
H Miller Bros was founded by furniture maker Hugh Miller, and his brother, architect Howard Miller. We combine our skills in design and woodwork in the creation of unique hardwood kitchens and furniture. Every project is a work of art in itself, with innovative design features, unusual materials, one-off details. Our clients range from private homeowners wanting a new kitchen or statement piece of furniture, to commercial clients in the marketing, hospitality and health sectors. Our general rule is ‘if it’s interesting, we’re in’.

The role:
Our new Workshop Manager will have 3 strands to their role: making; managing team members; and managing the workshop environment. The responsibilities for each strand are below:

  • Making:

- You will be responsible for taking projects from start to finish in the workshop. This will include interpreting project drawings; selecting and planning the use of materials; rough dimensioning and planing; accurate sizing and cutting, jointing , moulding, and shaping; sanding and prepping; finishing with oil, lacquer, paint etc, fitting projects on site.- Experience in using wood hand tools, power tools and stationary woodworking machinery is very important – this experience may have been self-guided or in a formal setting such as an apprenticeship or collage. Many projects require an ability to develop and make jigs in order to increase productivity when producing batches of items. Problem solving and thinking laterally to overcome issues is a vital part of the role, due to the large amount of bespoke work we make.- Most of our work is made from solid hardwood and veneered panel products. A good knowledge of solid wood joinery is very important, as this is what our workshop was founded on. Experience in working with panels – score cutting, carcassing, pocket-holing, and domino-ing – would be useful.- A lot of our work involves ironmongery and small bits of metal work. Experience of cutting in and installing ironmongery  would be great.- Many of our projects are installed in clients homes, and experience in fitting cabinetry and working on site away from the workshop would be preferable.

  • Managing team members:

- The role will involve managing other makers in the workshop, some experienced and some not. An ability to asses strengths and weaknesses in team members, and delegate tasks so projects are completed efficiently and productively, is important.
- As the linchpin between the making team and directors, reporting successes, flagging issues and giving regular updates on progress will be very important.

  • Managing the workshop environment:

- We operate our workshop with the health and safety of our staff and visitors at the center of decision making. As the workshop manager, it is essential that you share this priority. You will be responsible for the general day-to-day health and safety in the workshop, and will work with the directors to assess risks, in order to continually improve the safety of the workshop. Experience in health and safety is not essential, however, a positive attitude towards this aspect of the job is.
- You will keep tabs on when consumables and stocks are running low, if machines or tools need repair / sharpening / maintenance, and you’ll be responsible for maintaining a clean and clear workshop environment.

This is a full-time, permanent position for a highly motivated maker who is ready to take the next step in their career. Ideally, the role will start in August. The salary for the role is negotiable, £23,000-£38,000 based on experience, and includes pension contributions and paid sick leave.

If you think you’re the person we’re looking for, we’d love to hear from you. Please send CV’s and cover letters to hello@hmillerbros.co.uk.

If you have any questions ahead of applying, call us at the workshop on 0151 709 0970.
