A Mid-Century Modern Kitchen for Food Lovers in Brentford
When Mark and Clare approached us to design a kitchen for their new home in Brentford, it was clear from the start that this would be a project full of quirks and personality. Both keen foodies and pro-cooks, they wanted a space that would celebrate their love of food and entertaining while reflecting their shared appreciation for mid-century modern design.
A Contemporary Take on Mid-Century Warmth
From our first design meeting, it was important to Mark and Clare that their new kitchen felt contemporary, but with an infusion of mid-century detailing. We suggested cherry as it's a rich, warm wood that was a hallmark of mid-century furniture and interiors. Its wavy grain and burnt honey colour bring an intimate quality to the space, accentuated by the moderist lines of the cabinetry.

A Kitchen Designed for Entertaining
Entertaining was a key part of the brief, so the layout needed to be open, social, and highly functional. We designed a large island as the centrepiece — ideal for prepping, serving, and gathering with friends. To allow for the space to be flexible, we put the island on indutstrial castors, so the island can be moved our of the way, or positioned as a buffet. Though the wheels appear as fixed to the base of the cabientry, the island hides a solid cherry structural frame that helps to disperse the considerable weight, so it rolls smoothly when needed.
From Workshop to the 16th Floor
As with all our bespoke kitchens, we mocked up the design in our workshop so Mark and Clare could see it in person before installation. Their visit gave them a real sense of how the materials, proportions, and detailing would come together in their home.
Fitting the kitchen on the 16th floor of their Brentford apartment presented a few logistical challenges (including disassembling parts of the island so it could stand up in the lift), but everything went in without a hitch. The fit was completed in just five days, with the worktops following shortly after.

This project beautifully balances craftsmanship, functionality, and design integrity — a kitchen made for people who truly love to cook, entertain, and enjoy beautiful materials. Thank you to Mark and Clare for being such wonderful clients, and letting us tell the story of their proejct.
